In 2021, according to a recent estimate released by the Governors Highway Safety Association, drivers struck and killed an estimated 7,485 people on foot – the most pedestrian deaths in a single year in four decades.  This is an average of 20 deaths per day. This statistic says nothing about the exponentially more individuals catastrophically injured yearly in the United States.
